2021 Storm Sewer System Upgrades

  • Location Spruce Grove, Alberta
  • Description

On this project, GS Construction removed and replaced five side-by-side existing 1200mm diameter CSP culverts when 1200mm diameter concrete pipes on Fairway Drive in Spruce Grove. These pipes are used for a stream that crosses underneath the roadway, so bypassing of the stream during construction with a stringent environmental plan involving sediment and erosion control was required. Once this bypass was in place, a wide excavation was made to allow for all five of the pipes to be removed and replaced in unison across the roadway. Following the installation of the pipes, concrete headwalls were formed and poured on both the inlet and outlet of the new pipes. Large limestone rip rap was carefully installed on both ends to provide both erosion control and a beautiful look to the new culverts, along with asphalt and concrete restoration, landscaping restoration, and the installation of a new post-and-rail fence.

In addition to the 1200mm diameter culverts, this project also included various repairs including some full replacements of 28 catch basins located around the City of Spruce Grove. GS Construction was responsible for traffic accommodations, repairs, and surface restoration as needed at each of these locations.
