55 Avenue Water & Sanitary Replacement

  • Location Wetaskiwin, Alberta
  • Description

After multiple contractors had attempted but not finished the upgrade of the underground utilities on 55 Avenue, GS Construction was awarded the project to pick up where they had left off. A six meter deep sanitary mainline in challenging and sandy ground conditions made this project exceptionally difficult, and much larger equipment was required than typical neighbourhood renewal projects. It was also imperative that GS Construction maintained frequent and detailed communication with the residents who were suffering from construction fatigue over work starting and stopping in their neighbourhood over the course of a few years. We were responsible to supply temporary water to residents, maintain construction fencing around the entirety of the work area, and manage traffic and pedestrian accommodations throughout construction. The project consisted of 185 lineal meters of 375mm diameter sanitary sewer main at 6.0Vm depth, 140 lineal meters of 300mm diameter watermain, 11.8Vm of manholes, 20 residential lot service replacements, and restoration of 2,055m2 of asphalt roadway following the underground construction. Creative thinking, careful planning, and hard work from everyone involved helped us to be successful in completing this project where others had previously struggled.
