Fulton Creek Business Park

  • Location Edmonton, Alberta
  • Description

2-phase general contract for construction of an industrial business park, extension of Roper Road and widening of the 34 Street arterial roadway. ‘Onsite’ refers to Fulton Creek Business Park, which stretches over 1 quarter section of land in Southeast Edmonton. The onsite portion saw the construction of ~24,000 m2 of roadway, and ~3km of piping installed. 2 Storm Water Management Facilities (SWMF’s) were constructed to manage the storm water onsite, as well as help expand capacity for the overland drainage system along 34 Street North of Whitemud Drive. The offsite portion of Fulton Creek Business Park includes the full removal and reconstruction of 34 Street from Whitemud Drive to 1km North. Formerly a 2-lane road, 34 Street North of Whitemud Drive now boasts a 4-lane layout, going up to as wide as 6 when considering turning lanes. Most sewer infrastructure on 34 Street was relocated to allow for the expansion of the arterial roadway. Substantial traffic planning, coordination with City representatives, the OSCAM office, residents and other stakeholders are key in the success of this project.

    • 8x trenchless casing installations ranging from 300mm to 1800mm in diameter. Average length of shot was ~30m
    • ~3000m of pipe installation onsite
    • ~640m of pipe installation offsite
    • Over 140 concrete structures (manholes, vaults) installed.
    • ~24,000 m2 of roadways and over 2km of asphalt walking trails/concrete sidewalk
    • Coordination of large-scale jobsite with multiple contractors onsite at all times
    • Due to delayed building approvals, civil construction and building construction happened simultaneously. With careful coordination between groups, the project team managed to succeed in “sharing the sandbox” efficiently, safely and effectively.
