Job Locations: The position requires travel to various locations in the Edmonton area (AB). The employer arranges for travel when the job site is outside of the City of Edmonton.

Wage: $28.00 to $34.00 / hour (based on experience; salary increases as per Company policy).

Employment terms and conditions: Seasonal, Full-Time, 40 to 60 hours/week, Morning, Day, Weekend, Overtime

Language: English

Education: Not required

Experience: 3 years of related experience

Work Site Environment:  Outdoors, Underground, Confined spaces, Dangerous, Dusty

Work Setting: Sewers and water mains

Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Handling heavy loads (up to 23 kg or 50 lbs), Physically demanding, Overtime required, Attention to detail, Tight deadlines, Repetitive tasks, Manual dexterity

Personal suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills, Flexibility, Reliability, Team player

Area of Specialization: Laser levelling/aligning

Construction specialization: Pipelines, Underground and tunnel work, Water mains, Industrial/commercial/institutional (ICI) construction

Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

Security and safety: Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements

Duties:

Reporting to the Foreman the Pipelayer will be responsible for preparing and installing underground pipelines as required.

  • Load, unload and transport construction materials,
  • Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction,
  • Level earth to fine grade specifications,
  • Ensure blueprint specifications are followed,
  • Use laser levels, grade rods, or transit levels to ensure correct configuration & alignment of pipes,
  • Ensure the pipe is compliant with specifications with bedding, grade, and cover compaction,
  • Ensure company policies are followed to mitigate any damage to both overhead/underground utilities, property, and equipment,
  • Inspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications,
  • Ensure pipes are bedded and covered with appropriate dirt or other material,
  • Mentor and guide helpers and new employees,
  • Know, understand, and ensure compliance with safety regulations’
  • Know and follow the company’s rules, policies, and procedures,

Duties:

Reporting to the Foreman the Excavator Operator will be responsible for preparing the ground for pipeline installation as required.

  • Operate heavy equipment (excavator/hoe), including Hydraulic Excavator
  • Clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tanks
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment
  • Secure special attachments to equipment
  • Perform minor repairs to equipment
  • Ensure the trench is excavated to the specific depth/grade,
  • Place water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation
  • Observe the condition of the equipment and materials used to ensure it meets the company’s standards
  • Report any possible problems or defects
  • Ensure all work is conducted in a safe and responsible manner
  • Follow directions of the ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement, and grading
  • Operate two-way ratios and other communication equipment
  • Prepare accident reports
  • Know, understand, and ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Ensure compliance with current ground disturbance regulations
  • Know and follow the company’s rules, policies, and procedures
